Operative report #2 Preoperative Diagnosis: Bilateral carpal tunnel syndrome. Procedure Performed: Right carpal tunnel repair. Indication for Surgery: The patient is a 36-year-old male with bilateral carpal tunnel syndrome, moderate to severe on the right, and mild to moderate severity on the left. The patient is scheduled for carpal tunnel repair on the right with a planned steroid injection on the left in the near future. Risks and benefits were thoroughly discussed with the patient. The patient verbalized an understanding of the risks and benefits and indicated a desire to proceed with the planned surgical intervention and treatment. DESCRIPTION OF PROCEDURE: The operative site was appropriately identified and informed consent was obtained from the patient. Following adequate administration of general anesthesia, a tourniquet was placed on the patient’s right upper arm. The right upper extremity was then prepped and draped in the usual sterile fashion. A skin incision was then made and carried down with a scalpel to the level of the palmar fascia which was sharply divided. Bleeding points were identified with electrocautery using bipolar electrocautery.
